Our crane had two unique features that helped with its performance. One of these features was the use of the square aluminum sheet as an additional counterweight. Most other group used this square space at the bottom of the crane base to add additional strength. However, we felt that with the truss design that we used on the base, we didn’t need a base plate on our crane. By folding the sheet and using it as additional weight, we increase the force applied to lift the weight. The placement of this folded sheet was also important as we wanted it as far away from the lifting arm as possible to create a greater moment. Another unique feature of our crane was the placement of trusses along our triangular arm. Both ends of the truss piece were either placed above or below another piece. Most of the other groups, places truss pieces based on convenience, however we chose to ensure consistence throughout the entire arm to resist bending and torsion. Out of all the groups whose crane we observed, ours looked and felt the most durable.
